Tom Cullen

Thomas Augustus Cullen (1866–1949) was an early settler and miner in the Walgett district, at New Angledool and the Grawin. Born at Orange, New South Wales, to Jeremiah and Ellen Cullen, he was living at New Angledool by 1886.

Cullen married Elizabeth Troy at Goodooga in 1898, and the couple had two children.

Tom mined in the early days with his brother Mick Cullen and author Ion Idriess, as documented in Idriess’s Lightning Ridge: The Land of Black Opals.

He died at Manly, New South Wales, on 4 February 1949, aged 83. His remains were transported to Queensland for burial in the Catholic Cemetery at Dirranbandi.
