Links
Having a page of links is a bit old fashioned, but that’s the name of the game for a Historical Society. Please find below some recommended resources and other places on the Internet where you will find information about the history of Lightning Ridge.
Find a Grave
This is a website dedicated to logging information on gravesite locations all over the world. The LRHS manages a multitude of Find a Grave pages for former residents, historical figures and people significant to the Lightning Ridge community. This link goes directly to the listing of burials at the Lightning Ridge Cemetery.
Lost Lightning Ridge
A Facebook group dedicated to sharing the history of Lightning Ridge. Currently with over 7,500 members world-wide and a very active and supportive community.
The Pub Route
A recent tourism initiative to encourage visitors to rural communities and to explore the history of the old hotels of the region. Some no longer exist, but their history lives on!
Curiosity Mine
A YouTube channel created by LRHS supporter and life member Russell Gawthorpe, with videos about the history, culture and quirks of Lightning Ridge — among other things!
Lightning Ridge Visitors Information Centre
The official website for the Visitors Information Centre, a recommended stop when in The Ridge.
wj.com.au
Probably the oldest website about Lightning Ridge, definitely the oldest website from Lightning Ridge. Set up by Wolfgang Johannson in the late ‘90s to early 2000s, this website hosted the Lightning Ridge Historical Society’s first website — and it’s still there to see today!
