James Leonard “Jim” Craig was born on 24 July 1899 at Port Macquarie, New South Wales, son of William Craig and Margaret Craig. He married Lena May Whiticker in 1925 at Balmain, New South Wales.
Craig joined the New South Wales Police Force and was transferred to Lightning Ridge in May 1928, arriving from Burren Junction. He was stationed at Lightning Ridge from 24 May 1928 to 28 May 1933. In June 1928 he was also appointed an Inspector within the Walgett Police District, under the Rural Workers Accommodation Act, 1926.
After leaving Lightning Ridge in 1933, Craig continued his police career, rising to the rank of Inspector, later serving at Kempsey.
James Leonard Craig died at Kempsey, New South Wales, on 23 March 1964, aged 64, and was buried there.
