Bullocky’s

Bullocky’s (or Bullockies, and not to be confused with Bullock’s Head) is an opal field located south of New Town Hill. It is one of the poorer producing fields at Lightning Ridge, with working depths ranging from 4 to 20 feet.

According to The Lightning Ridge Book by Stuart Lloyd, total production from Bullocky’s had only reached £4,000 by the 1960s. Despite this modest output, at least one significant claim was recorded, worked by Son Bruce in 1934, which produced very good black opal.
